kingdom of Uzhvar
Originally a much smaller kingdom, over the course of centuries this kingdom has conquered, absorbed and annexed much of the Shalim continent, bringing many people under the rule of the sorcerer monarchs of Uzhvar.
Within its borders, there are two distinct classes of citizenry, the original people of Uzvhar, who call themselves the lao mayung or “blessed in heritage,” and the mere subjects, or yan. The lao, or blessed, use tiefling statistics and for the most part the same appearance. The subjects are halflings, humans, wood gnomes and orcs who have all been brought under Uzhvar rule.
The nobility are all, without exception, lao; no yan has ever been granted so much as the lowest of hereditary positions or titles. Infighting between the noble families is constant, vicious and inescapable. Families are eradicated through treachery and assassination while new ones are founded by the inscrutable whim of the sorcerer monarchs. Amongst the nobility the practice of magic is an unquestioned given, though arcane capability is not correlated with status, a noble not being able to cast spells is unthinkable. Though the monarch is referred to as the Sorcerer King or Queen, the position is simply one of birth and not determined by magical power.
